Which files actually get smaller?
ZIP compression looks for repetition, so it shines on text-like data: Word and Excel files, CSVs, code, logs, BMP images and plain text often shrink dramatically. Formats that are already compressed — JPG, PNG, WebP, MP4, MP3 and most PDFs — have little repetition left, so the ZIP mainly bundles them rather than shrinking them. If your goal is smaller photos, convert or resize them first and then zip the results.
Repacking an existing ZIP
Drop a .zip in and the tool unpacks it in memory and rebuilds it at the level you chose. You will see the before and after size, so it is easy to tell whether the extra squeeze was worth it.

Documents, text, spreadsheets, code and uncompressed images often shrink a lot. Files that are already compressed - JPG, PNG, MP4, MP3, PDF - barely shrink, because their data is packed already.
Can I compress an existing ZIP file further?
You can drop one in and it will be repacked at a higher level, but expect only a small gain. Most of a ZIP's contents are already compressed.
What is the difference between Fast, Balanced and Maximum?
They set how hard the compressor works. Fast finishes quickest, Maximum produces the smallest file but takes longer, and Balanced sits in between.
Is there a size limit?
We impose none. The practical limit is your device's memory, so very large jobs run better on a computer.
Does the compressed ZIP open everywhere?
